Christians, Be Affected

We're afraid of being affected. We're afraid of being emotional.

Where have we gotten the idea that God is not an emotional being? That being emotional is bad? That being emotional is the opposite of making sense? That emotions cannot be expressed in a logical manner?

Emotion is good. It's necessary. Without it, we cannot oppose evil. We CANNOT oppose evil. We can't hate it; we can't get sick over it; we can't mourn it. There's this stigma against being affected. It's wrong. We need to be affected. We need to get sick over sin. We need to weep like Jesus did, and get angry like Jesus did. We need to marvel over faith like Jesus did. We need to stand for something, like Jesus did.

I know what it is. Being openly angry about something shows that you are vulnerable about that. Someone can get to you. If you get angry about something, it means that someone can do it just to bother you. It shows what you love. If you love your car, you get angry if someone eggs it. We don't want to be vulnerable. We don't want people to know what we love because they'll attack it.

That's a bad reason to stop getting angry over sin. That's a bad reason to stop rending out clothes and putting ashes on our heads. That's a bad reason! We're afraid of their faces! God says don't be afraid of them! He says be holy like He is holy, but we'd rather hide in our little bubbles and not be affected. We'd rather sweep the atrocities under the rug than go out and fight and fight and fight only to have people laugh at us. We're afraid of their faces....

I'm tired of being afraid of their faces. I'm tired of coasting. I'm tired of trying not to be affected, of avoiding things that I know will break my heart. I'm tired of not reading the details because I know it'll make me cry myself to sleep tonight to think of those tiny, beautiful children being mercilessly pulled apart and crushed to death. I'm tired of not trying because I'm afraid it won't matter. Ezekiel didn't change them. Jeremiah didn't change them. Isaiah didn't change them. It's not about changing them. It's not about winning.

It's about having a heart like God's. Do you believe that God cares for every single aborted baby? Then so should we! We should care as much as He does. Be affected, Christian family - openly, deeply, for everyone to see and hear. Please, be affected.
